미군 "상선위협 이란드론 격추"…종전직전까지 호르무즈 공방전

(서울=연합뉴스) 곽민서 기자 = 미국과 이란이 종전 양해각서(MOU)에 잠정 합의한 뒤에도 호르무즈 해협에서 충돌을 이어갔다.

12일(현지시간) 로이터통신에 따르면 미군은 이날 호르무즈 해협을 향해 비행하던 이란의 자폭 드론(편도 공격형 드론) 여러 대를 격추했다고 밝혔다.

미군은 해당 드론들이 호르무즈 해협을 통과하는 상업용 선박을 타격하려 했다고 주장했다.

이란 반관영 메흐르통신도 이란 남부 해안 시리크 항구와 게슘섬 인근 해역에서 폭발음이 감지됐다고 보도했다.

미국과 이란이 종전 MOU 서명을 앞둔 가운데에도 호르무즈 해협을 중심으로 한 양측의 충돌은 여전히 이어지는 모습이다.

이란은 자국군의 승인 없이 해협을 통과하려는 상선에 드론 공격을 시도하는 등 통제권을 행사하려 하고 있다.

이에 맞선 미군도 상선을 위협하는 이란 드론을 격추하는 등 무력 대응을 지속하고 있다.

이란은 미국과 종전 MOU 서명 이후에도 호르무즈 해협 통제권을 계속 유지하면서 궁극적으로는 '수수료'를 받겠다는 입장을 공식화한 상태다.

아바스 아라그치 이란 외무장관은 이날 이란 국영TV에서 "호르무즈 해협 관리 문제는 전쟁 이전의 상태로 돌아가지는 않을 것"이라며 해협을 통과하는 선박에 '서비스 수수료'를 매기겠다는 방침을 고수했다.

이를 두고 호르무즈 해협을 사실상의 내해(內海)로 삼아 '수수료'라는 이름으로 사실상 '통행료'를 강제로 받아 챙기려는 이란과, 호르무즈 해협을 전쟁 전처럼 자유로운 통항이 보장되는 국제 수로로 되돌리려는 미국의 구상이 정면으로 충돌하고 있다는 지적이 나온다.
